I brought Olivia to the senior activity center on Wednesday where the elders from my writing group threw us the most generous of baby showers. Handmade gifts galore. Flowers. Chocolate cake. Poems.
Love born from the sharing of stories over time.
One of the grandmas gave me the following metaphor for the natural jealousy of older children when the new babe arrives home:
Imagine that after years of a blissful marriage your husband arrives home and says, "Honey I want you to meet my second wife. I expect you to greet her with open arms and to share everything with this new member of our family. I still love you but I love her too. She will be sleeping with us so you may need to spend more time in your own room, in your own bed, and I'll need to hold her a lot, A LOT, you understand right? ...
...Oh, and I want you to love her too."
What a great analogy! I always expect that my kids will have some amount of adjustment when we add new siblings to the family, but I'd never thought of it that way. Your kiddos are absolutely adorable!

Thats pretty good. I remember when we brought our second child home a good friend told me "Always tend to your oldest first, even if the baby's crying. He will remember. The baby wont" I remember this often. Especially as our baby turned out have major health problems and special needs...
Great pics too. Elias looks so grown up next to his baby sister:)

Wise, wise words. Elias looks so grown up! WOW! I can envision many moments of shared love and laughter between both your children as they grow.

I love how their expressions (is it possible) and movements mirror each other.

Yeah, Christy--I had to get used to saying "the boyS" instead of just Mason. Does take some getting used to, that's for sure!
