Toes in socks.
Its the little things, the little parts and pieces of living, that short-circuit and keep any transition from running smooth.
To go for a walk takes twenty minutes, at least, just to get out the door.
Tonight I sat on our bench, as Elias stood before me, and we must have tried twenty times to get all five fingers in their correct sleeve.
"Is it right?'
"No."
"Let's try again... They in there?"
"Yeah."
"It's comfortable?"
"No."
"Let me feel. Its because you have two fingers in one. Here we go, watch this time...Good?"
"No."
"Now?"
"No."
"Ok, here we go..."
This is how it goes.
Or... Elias sits on the bench without making any moves to put on his shoes, just rubbing his eyes and swinging his legs, mumbling a song I don't know.
"Elias!?... Put your boots on....We're going...Elias!...Now!!..."
He's smart enough to know if he waits long enough we'll help him, because we need to be somewhere, not in our kitchen waiting out a stubborn ten-year-old boy who acts as if he's more disabled then we'll allow him to be, who tests our will to wait with his own self-centered desire to be served.
Elias, the boy that could.
Our uncoordinated coordinated kid.
The one who breaks me and builds me up again, time and time again.
Mittens rock.

I hope that you are feeling more "built up" going into 2015 knowing that Elias is going into another year that may never have been without the love, prayers and work of his family. You guys are amazing. Cheers!

His mittens were wet and his other pair left at Julia's so we struggled with the new gloves I thought would work, but struggle we did:)
And yes, Flem, thank you, I am in a better space and we had a nice relaxing Christmas once it finally arrived. Cheers, hugs and love to you and yours!!

It's the cracks that let the light in. May we both remember this in the new year. Best to you and your family Christy!

I feel your pain. My 13yo still puts his underwear and shirts on backwards half the time, lol!
