On New year's Eve, On David's property above Resurrection Bay, we let off four lanterns, with each of us making a wish before letting them drift off into the star-filled night.
Olive wished for an airplane
Elias, unprompted, said, "I hope Alyeska gets more snow."
For folks who don't know, we are about twenty inches under the lowest snowfall ever recorded.
It's been a rough winter up here in Alaska, dark and snow-less, with days that feel like night.
Well, I'm happy to say that as I write, Elias's wish is finally coming true.
Let the snow continue to fall, and happy Friday all!
Lovely! Is there a fire risk to this? Is it only safe in wintery Alaska? Genuinely curious bc I'd love to try it sometime. xo

In theory the light burns out as it rises higher in the sky so there isn't a fire risk but i sure felt safer knowing we were in the wet cold Alaskan woods:) It is a beautiful way to bring in the New year.
