Christy,
What a joy and respite for you all. I am grateful that YOU all get this peace.

With happiness for you,
Melissa

So thrilled you found your connection there and hope that community will continue to support you even more than this virtual one. Glad to check in and hear about your time away and especially glad it was so great.

Awesome!

Christy, you're such a truly amazing writer. My heart reaches out with love and support and good tidings, and while being a parent of a child with special needs has a whole world of additional challenges -- challenges I do not have -- everything is so relatable and empathy-inspiring. Big hugs, and so happy that you all had a GOOD week. :-)

Such a beautiful post, and it sounds like an amazing place!!

Thanks all, it was an amazing experience and one we hope to repeat next summer. We leave again on Friday for another week in Seward before I have to be back at work--boo--but hopefully back to writing more too.

Every friendship is valuable, but its incredible making a connection to another Special Needs parent. Seeing understanding instead of pity or questioning is something hard to find. Its wonderful that you found that at the camp last week. Have a great time in Seward.

as you often have you made cry. Your writing is moving. Thank you for sharing.

Our family has been attending Adam's Camp in Colorado for 12 years now. It is our oasis and we guard that week with a vongeance. In many ways we have grown up at Adam's Camp. We have learned that we are not really as alone as we often feel. We have discovered that when we approach the future with the same vision that Adam's Camp uses to see our son, we see what amazing possibilities await us. We have used Adam's Camp as a compass to guide us through things seemingly far removed from the world of diagnosis and disability.

I can't really imagine what our life would be without Adam's Camp. Even though we are only there for one week of the year, we feel its influence and presence like a constant force; an extra set of hand to guide, eyes to see and hugs to comfort.

Thank you for your honest, eloquent and evocative description of your week. But most of all, welcome to the family.

I can't wait to read your book about this (I hope you write a memoir!)--your eloquence, honesty, and zest for life are intertwined so seamlessly.
