When, in the middle of a blizzard, your overdue-from-Anchorage husband, who you haven't seen for a week, opens the door of Rez Art Coffee House, as you stand on the old church alter, mid-poem, and you tell the intimate audience, "Hold on, I'll be right back," and you walk towards the man you love, to give him a hug and a kiss, before returning to the stage to read your second piece, as he stands in the back and listens.
When over a foot of snow turns a dark winter bright and tops the trees with the most anticipated present of this holiday season.
When a coworker at the prison organizes christmas caroling, and you walk through the balcony of the segregation unit, singing Jingle Bells, as some of the men look out of the slits of their cells, with surprised smiles, after which you freely return outside, as the sideways sun highlights the mountain tops in a way not even a canvas can capture..
When twelve girls, including your daughter, sing Jingle Bells in the back of the truck, as you drive down the driveway to decorate a friends' spruce tree on the beach, after an afternoon of birthday sledding, where grownups and children laughed as they crashed only to climb the hill again and again, as snowballs flew in all directions.
When your son continues to grow and grow and grow despite the odds.
When he now shadows Santa Claus, but still believes:
When you never get around to actually sending cards, but your community of caring individuals, both near and far, both known and virtual, love you anyways.
Happy Holidays all!
Love this and love you! Merry Christmas!

Much more satisfying than a traditional Christmas card.
